In many cultures butterflies are considered to be our ancestors and deceased loved ones, who'll from time to time come to visit us to tell that we are safe.
I think butterflies are great teachers of nature showing that seemingly an end of something is actually beginning of something new. Nothing ever disappears but transforms.
